Celebrating Ben Laden's Death, Is There a Question Here? Here?

I for one am tired of hearing Christian radio debate whether it is appropriate to rejoice at Osama Bin Laden's death. I personally think every church in America should have had a specific offering of Praise to the Father for this victory. The Bible makes it very clear that God appoints government to be arbiters of his wrath. Killing Osama Bin Laden was an act of worship.

"Let everyone be subject to governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive approval, for God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong be afraid, but he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God an avenge who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer." (Romans 13;1-4)

God appoints governments and gives them the sword (military authority) for the purpose of carrying out his wrath on evil people. There is no doubt that Osama Bin Laden was evil. He killed thousands of innocent people in the 1993 and 2001 World Trade Center bombings. We often celebrate God's love, is it appropriate to celebrate his holiness? Is it appropriate to celebrate when right triumphs over might? Can we celebrate when justice prevails over terror? Can we celebrate when the death of innocents is avenged? Can we celebrate when a mass murderer is killed? Is it okay to celebrate righteousnesses? If we honor God's holiness and celebrate it, how can fail to celebrate the action of governing authorities to avenge evil?

Some will say Bin Laden was a human being and we should never celebrate another human's demise. The Bible commands the Jewish people in the feast of Purim celebrate the just execution of Haman who was seeking genocide? Isn't part of the Passover celebration rejoicing at God's deliverance of his people which included the slaughter of Egyptian children and the army? We have a shrine to Abraham Lincoln in Washington that celebrates his emancipation of slaves. His action involved the killing of thousands of his own countrymen. Many of our churches celebrate Memorial Day which honors our killing of people in defense of liberty. The soldiers, sailors, airman, marines and coasties we honor on that holiday are honored for killing in just wars. Such acclamation is honoring to God, because his holiness is more than individual. It is social. The defense of liberty and justice is a ministry of his servants. In worship we not only proclaim God's love we elevate that he is just and that human beings, such as Bin Laden are subject to his authority. Ben Laden had no regard for human life. Killing him protects life and honors God's creation and his authority.

You can not worship God without celebrating all of his attributes including his holiness. Justice is the application of his holiness to moral situations. The US military not only carried out its duty to our nation, they avenged evil, doing what God had instituted our government to do. I think that to fail to celebrate is diminishes worship and shows a convoluted view of God and Worship. Hallelujah Osama Ben Ladem is dead.
