Outsider Candidates are GOP's Last Best Hope

I am not a Trump supporter, at least not yet. If the decision were mine alone I would give the nomination to another candidate; on the other hand, neither am I one who is wringing my hands waiting for him to drop out of the race. If Trump gets the nomination I will vote for him. We could do a lot worse. Trump is the healthiest thing for the party since the nomination of Teddy Roosevelt.  It is becoming more and more evident to me that Trump may actually be the nominee. I agree with much of what Trump says. I  like most of what he says, and I love the way he says it. It is about time someone told the truth. The one thing that distinguishes Trump and the outsider candidates, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina, is that they understand  that the fundamental quality of leadership is credibility.  I would vote for any one of them in a heartbeat over any of the democrats or the moderate Republicans like Bush, Christie, Pitaki, Gilmore and Kaisich, or the amnesty advocates like Rubio, Huckabee, Graham, Paul, and Perry. If Trumps keeps doing what he's doing, he could be living in someone else's mansion, flying in some else's 767, and in a helicopter that is much older than his own. Trump (or Carson and maybe Fiorina) could win this thing. There is no doubt that to win in 2016 the GOP must undergo recrudescence.

During the last Republican nomination process Mitt was declared as "the only electable candidate." The same was said about Mc Cain in 2008, who lost, Bush in 2000, who won by less than 1000 votes, Dole before him who lost. The electoral strategy of the RNC that has lead to narrow victories and losses is that moderates are the most likely winners of elections and they win by appealing to moderates. While saying nothing or do nothing controversial, we appeal to 20% of the electorate and think our base will rally in droves to politicians who offer them the status quo. One would think the losses or narrow recent Republican victoirous Presidential elections would lead one to question the premises upon which they had been built, since they have only resulted in failures or narrow victories.

The Republican Party has since Watergate been so focused on polls and punditry that they have failed to see that the world is leaving them behind. The conservative base and organizations like the TEA party have responded to our times in ways that could lead the Republican Party to dominance in American politics for the foreseeable future, and all the party has done is feared the repeat of battles lost (such as the 1964 election and Watergate). They have no mission or agenda for the future. They have neither insight or vision regarding the condition or the hope of our Republic and they refuse to protect and defend the Constitution. Although they have strong majorities in Congress they refuse to use the constitutional remedies at their disposal to effectively oppose the nihilistic agenda of this President. Despite their midterm promises to stop Obama in his tracks they continually take actions that empower him. The best thing that has happened to President Obama since he won the White House, was the Republican take over of Congress. They have made sure that he has no opposition to any thing he wanted.

The best thing that has happened to President Obama since he won the White House, was the Republican take over of Congress.

After the 2010 mid-term victory , the largest since 1922, the winning party completely surrendered their victory and power to the democrats by refusing to de-fund Obamacare, shut down the government, make any to attempt to control s pending, tried to pass amnesty took impeachment off the table, because they  cowered in the face of media vitriol. Instead in 2012 the party nominated a moderate, who had himself authored the state health care program that was  a model for Obama Care. Romney lost as I predicted he would. Then in 2014 again the Republicans were given an electoral mandate to stop Obama, and they have ignored their electorate again, letting Obama grant amnesty to illegal aliens, failing to support the religious freedom of those who oppose gay marriage, and creating a legal process assuring the passage of Obama's dangerous Iran deal. There are only two possible explanations for the failure of the opposition party: either they are incompetent and do not know how to effectively oppose Obama, or they secretly agree with his agenda. Since every member of Congress who attempts to reverse the direction of the nation gets punished, and every primary candidate that runs against the old guard gets opposition from the RNC, one can only assume that the Republican establishment secretly agrees with Obama's agenda.

Although Governor Scott Walker (along with Governor Bobby Jindal) has successfully implemented conservative policies in the face of vociferous opposition and media vitriol his campaign appears to be losing traction. His supporters seem to be shifting to Trump or Carson. Republican voters are demanding a change. The Republican party has never been ideologically monolithic. We have had conservatives like Jim Demint and Ted Cruz, moderates like Ford, Romney and the Bushes, and liberals like Nixon, Nelson Rockefeller and Mark Hatfield of Oregon.
After his confirmation as Vice President Nelson Rockefeller was interviewed by a CBS Correspondent who asked him about his Republican affiliation,

"Mr. Vice President you could have had the democratic nomination any election cycle you had chosen why have you remained a Republican?"
"In many ways my views align more closely with the democratic party except for one are -- fiscal responsibility. Republicans believe in fiscal responsibility, democrats don't"

The Republican Party has traditionally stood for fiscal responsibility, which this Congress has abandoned allowing several debt limit increases. The Republican Party has in the words of former Vice President Dan Quayle stood for traditional family values. This party has expanded entitlements, allowed confiscatory tax policy and approved nominees to the federal bench and to the President's cabinet who have disdain for the Constitution. The Republican Party has traditionally stood for a strong national defense. This party has allowed sequestration and passed legislation to allow the Iran deal to bypass the treaty obligations of the Constitution. The Republican base has no trust in the Republican leadership; they believe that even those with proven records like Walker and Jindal will be unable to energize the Congressional leadership.

Since the traditional Republican party no longer exists, the have witnessed the rise of the outsider candidates and abandoning of the party by its base. Had Trump, Carson or Fiorina run independently of either party they would have had no less support then they do now and the Republican Party would have been relegated to third party status and would have vanished into oblivion. These three along with Walker, Jindal and Cruz are refocusing the party on it principles. They are waking the party up to what the people want. If we are going to win this election one these three (or Walker, Jindal or Cruz) will have to be on the ticket. I for one will not cast another wasted vote for a spineless moderate, and neither will millions of other Republicans. The Outsider Candidates are the Republican party's last best hope.
