Rubio No Conservative Alternative

After two debates and the exit of Governor Scott Walker the Republican 2016 field appears to be narrowing. Donald Trump and Ben Carson are tied, Fiorina is next followed by Marco Rubio. Rubio and Carson appear to have gained the most from Walker's exit. I was  a Walker supporter. I liked Governor Walker and appreciated his accomplishments in Wisconsin. Walker seemed to blame his demise at least partially on Trump. Walker's problem was Walker. His campaign was not organized for a sustained national effort. Although Walker effectively defended his gubernatorial record, he was unable to connect his accomplishment to national issues. Additionally Walker's campaign was top heavy with little grass roots organization. I have worked in several campaigns over the years and tried to contact Walker's team to offer my support. All I got was a request for money. Walker is young and he may yet be a viable candidate in future cycles. As he left the field many pundits suggested that Rubio was the best alternative to Walker. A close look at Rubio's record reveals that he is no conservative alternative to Walker.

I like Rubio he is a man who holds traditional family values, has a compelling life story and is an excellent communicator. Although he claims to be a Conservative when you look at Rubio's record he appears to go along with the moderate establishment wing of the Republican party. Rubio had a short tenure in the Florida Senate, then has only served one term as US Senator from Florida. If Rubio were elected President he would have less experience running a government than Obama did when he took office, and his inexperience shows in  his voting record. Just last week Rubio asserted that  Planned Parenthood could not be defunded unless the Republicans controled the House the Senate and have the Presidency. Frankly it's that kind of "we have to control everything to do anything" philosophy that has emasculated this Congress.

Our Constitution gives tools to the minority party to slow or avert the policies of the majority. The democrats have known how to use those tools when they were in the minority. Rubio voted for the recent Corker Amendment, which allowed the President to subvert the treaty requirements of the Constitution in order to pass the Iran deal. Rubio voted the continuing resolution that funded all of the government including Planned Parenthood. Rubio still supports a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. He is among those who have excoriated Ted Cruz for defending the Constitutional process. The only thing you can judge a politician by is there record.

Rubio's record is clear. He is an establishment Republican moderate. He talks the right talk, but does not walk, the walk. Rubio is no conservative alternative to Walker. Were Rubio to get the nomination he would loose as did Romney, Dole, and George H. W. Bush before him. For me there are three candidates that I, a former Walker supporter would gravitate towards -- Jindal, Fiorina or Carson. Fiorina's candidacy is gaining steam and she may be a viable choice. Jindal has never gotten momentum. For me the person who aligns closest to Walker's position and to me is Ben Carson.

Among the three outsiders Carson currently appears to have the momentum. Trump is still the front runner, though his numbers are showing negligible increase. Carly Fiorina surged after the debate but at least for the moment does not appear to be gaining. Ben Carson is currently the conservative candidate on the rise, and is a much better alternative to Walker. A Carson /Walker ticket would to me be the best chance the Republicans have of beating the eventual democratic nominee.
