There is no longer any doubt the mainstream media (broadcast networks, their cable affiliates, daily newspapers) have become completely mouth pieces for the democratic party and the left. All one has to do is observe the difference in the way the anti-Obama care/TEA party demonstrations last summer were covered in comparison to the way they are covering the current demonstrations in Wisconsin. Recall how TEA partiers and those who went to town meetings and who marched on Washington were characterized. They were called uncivil, accused of being racist or even Nazi's. Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck became media pariahs because of their appearances at these rallies. They were accused of just being upset "because a black man was in the White House," and of being selfish and greedy only interested in protecting their wealth. When I see what has happened in Egypt in the last few weeks I am concerned that the Obama administration is repeating the mistake of the Carter Administration 30 years ago. In response to what present themselves as several weeks of democratic protest in Iran Carter quickly vacated support for the Shah, with little regard for influencing what would come next. Those who eventually took power were those who were the most organized and oppressive. Now Iran has devolved into a caliphate. I am afraid Egypt is heading down the same road. The Obama administration faltered when discontent arose in Egypt. The Secretary of State announced that the government in Egypt was "stable." For the first two weeks Obama said nothing, he was reactive,waiting to see how the cards were going to fall before making a statement. There has been a lot of talk since November about reigning in government spending. Most people are in favor of reducing government spending until their program is cut, their grant proposal is denied. The question is how can government be reigned in successfully and worthwhile programs be maintained. Here are some radically conservative ideas for making our country what Ronald Reagan dreamed we would be -- a city on a hill. On the occasion of his hundredth birthday we can experience what he called our great "rendezvous with destiny." But it will take radical solutions to get there. If I here one more Hollywood liberal say that their Christian faith leads them to a progressive liberal world view I am going to scream. First lets make it clear that Jesus did not come to be a political leader. He made absolutely no comments about Pax Romana, or the major social injustice of his day, slavery. He road into the temple on a donkey and spurned attempts to make him king. He was not a politician. There are several New Testament passages progressives interpret to mean that a Christian community is responsible for establishing a community based on what they call "social justice." which apparently means a world where there is common ownership of property and no differences in status among people. Frankly, I am tired of the pundits and politicians who are blaming Sarah Palin or conservative talk show host for Congresswoman Gifford's shooting. It all began with the sheriff of the county blamed it on "right wing" vitriol. This apparently to cover up his lack of vigilance for protecting her. The shooter, Jared Loghner, had a history of violence, and of making threats to public officials, including President Bush and Congresswoman Giffords. He is certainly the kind of person who should have been under observation when this kind of an event was announced. His actionss were consistent with his known history and behavior, which is why blaming the action on Palin or other is ludicrous. One of the defining moments in the development of my political philosophy took place at a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting at the University of South Florida, where I did my undergraduate work, sometime in 1973. The Vietnam War was still raging. The speaker that night was a US Air Force fighter pilot recently returned from Vietnam who came to share the story of his conversion to Christianity. When his visit was announced the radical student organizations arranged to have the event protested. The pilot had to be escorted into the student union by the University Police. There were horrible grotesque signs and banners up on campus all day with maxims like: "Jesus welcomed babies, he didn't bomb them." A group came into the meeting and attempted to disrupt his testimony, heckling him with chants of ba -by kil - ler ." Do you remember when Congressman Dennis Kucinich and others were opposing the Patriot Act as a violation of the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution? They argued that the government was becoming oppressive by listening to phone calls coming from overseas cell phones, or looking at what books had been checked out of a library without a warrant. They argued we were using fear as a reason to violate our own values and the Fourth Amendment: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be violated and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or Affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched and the person and things to be seized."
